SMEs record 30% higher export profits than in the previous year

Some 12,000 small and medium-sized Spanish companies already sell their products through Amazon. The latest report published by the company reveals that SMEs recorded more than 650 million euros in exports, 30% more than last year.

In 2021 there were only 9,000 SMEs registered in the Marketplace. Today, the number has multiplied to 12,000 SMEs.

The existence of marketplaces such as Amazon has become vital for small businesses, as they have more possibilities to sell their products abroad. However, experts warn that this, despite the benefits, also means increased competition. Nortembio, one of the companies that sells on Amazon, points out that “not everyone will be able to surf the e-commerce wave”.

Double benefits

The rise of e-commerce has led companies to take advantage of it to double their profits. In this respect, Euromonitor 2020 data show that more than 70% of European online shoppers place cross-border orders. This information is complemented by the results of the survey ‘Digital and global: the future of Spanish small businesses’ prepared by Alibaba Group. According to the survey, 39% of Spanish small businesses said they would sell their products and services outside Spain for the first time in 2021.

For his part, the manager of Nortembio, José Luis Vázquez, pointed out that it is not enough just to be present on the Marketplace, but that it is also necessary to offer a “good product that is competitive, because only the best sell on Amazon and, in the not too distant future, the rest will not sell. It is a natural selection”.

For example, Nortembio already sells more than 3,000 products per day. The company has recorded a turnover of more than 7 million euros with the help of Amazon. Moreover, this year they expect to increase this turnover. To this end, they plan to continue to focus on innovation at a global level.
